Wendy Roller RN BC MSN
MIM Herding Instructor
Wendy fell into herding with the gift of an Australian Shepherd puppy, Joey, 17 years ago. Destined to be a pet and family dog, "the little Aussie that could" attended her first herding clinic "just for fun" at 1 year of age. A few months after, they were in their first trial, competing in both herding and obedience. Once a nationally ranked herding dog, Joey, now 18 years old (WTCH Roller's Almond Joy, CDX, RD, RtdC, CGC) holds down the couch as the perfect family dog!
Wendy now has had winning dogs in 3 herding systems., and pointed several homebred and trained dogs in the USBCHA Open trial system. Her students dogs compete successfully in multiple herding venues and several have achieved awards in USBCHA open trials, BCSA versatility, and more. She is also a licensed AHBA all breed herding instinct test and trial judge.
When Wendy isn't training dogs in herding, she's managing her sheep flock on the family farm, working as a Nurse Practitioner And if there's time left after that, she enjoys furthering her knowledge of dog training in general, especially competitive obedience and agility. Rescuing dogs also holds a special place in her heart and she supports both Border Collie and general herding dog rescue both financially and as a foster home. On average, at least 6 dogs a year come from dire straits to her beloved Lochlea Farm in Alabama, where they get the care and training they need to be placed in appropriate and permanent homes. A few dogs, Border Collie or not, stay permanently as members of the family. Write to her for information about herding dogs at: wendy_roller@earthlink.net
Wendy is looking forward to promoting Herding Training at PetsBehave!
